Making a difference for families with global stories of hope and healing.
Matthew traveled the world working for a surf company. After a visit home and a tick bite, he returned to Hawaii. His health slowly began to decline, and he went to a doctor. But at this time, Lyme disease was not very well known outside of specific areas within the US.
His work required him to travel and be physical. But his fatigue grew, and his ability to maintain his job diminished. He moved back to Vermont to live with his parents, where his health continued to decline. Matthew’s weight dropped under 120 pounds (54.5 kg), eventually stopped driving and leaving the house. His world existed within a few miles for several years.
“I had already given up and accepted my new normal was living with chronic illness.”
After he started a plant-based treatment protocol, he felt motivated again. His mind began to wonder about his friends, driving again, and surfing waves.
A change took him from his brother helping him walk to moving into an apartment near his parents. He was excited to regain independence and believe that there could be life beyond illness.
Despite a biotoxin illness and VOCs (volatile organic compounds) setback at the new apartment, he feels strong enough again and plans to live independently on the west coast.
